Meeting Notes for March 27 2019
President Brett Matherly called the meeting to order.  Emmett Hudgins led the invocation. Rotarian of the Day, Brian Douglas, led the Club in the Pledge and the Four-Way Test. 
 
Announcements
 
  • Rotarian Ken Bohannon reminded us of that the opera Die Walküre by Wagner will be telecast live on March 30, 2019 at the Goddard Center.
  • Rotarian Daniel Gibbs talked about an upcoming event this Thursday March 28, 2019, 6:00 pm, at the Greater Southwest Historical Museum, S. Wayne Maxwell and his wife Carolee Maxwell will discuss and sign their books, Slim Pickins’, the story of how Coach Maxwell started 8-man football at Thackerville High School and Touched by Greatness, the biography of Charles Watson McGilberry and his journey from Indian Territory to the Ivy League.
  • Rotarian Darrell Scott shared the good news that he will soon get to see his 3 year old grandchild. His son and wife have been living in Germany and they are finally able to travel to the United States.
 
Speaker
Rotarian of the Day, Brian Douglas, introduced Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, Alicia Henry. Alicia discussed the new Clubhouse family entertainment center that is actually having its pre-construction meeting today. Groundbreaking is just 15 days away. The 9,000 square-foot building will include an arcade, zip line, and a miniature golf course.
 
There are many other spring events already underway in Ardmore. Softball and Stickball is starting soon. The City of Ardmore’s American Heart Association Golf Tournament will be held Friday, April 5th at the Lakeview Golf Club.Teams are needed to participate in the fundraiser. The huge annual Easter egg hunt will be held again this year with 30,000 eggs to find. It will be preceded by an Easter egg hunt for pet owners and their dogs. The eggs they find will be filled with dog treats.
 
The dog park is also being changed so that there will now be an area for dogs under 30 lbs. and an area for dogs over 30 lbs.
 
Other Business
President Matherly introduced Rotarian Marcus Cunningham who presented a funding request to the club.Oak Hall Episcopal School needs funds to help a couple of their scholarship students go on a field trip to Boston. A total of $1,900.00 needs to be raised for them to go. A motion was made by Jim Marshall to present Oak Hall with $500 and it was seconded by Marcus Cunningham. .Ayes: All, Nays: None.
