Speaker

Rotarian of the Day Darrell Scott introduced his speaker, Mike Whitson, owner of Financial Management Inc. in Ardmore.  Mike graduated from ECU in 1985 with a B.S. in Business Administration-Marketing.  He worked for 19 years for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  He was also a coach for three years.  He joined Jack Riley at Financial Management in 2010.  Jack has retired and Mike is now the owner of FMI.
Mike’s presentation focused on the state of our economy and what is expected through the remainder of the year.  Problems with the supply chain may result in shortages of items especially in the fall.  The growth in inflation will most certainly push the US into a recession (we may already be in one).  The recent moves by the Federal Reserve to increase interest rates will probably be too late to soften the recession's impacts.  The future beyond the fall is murky and dependent on what is happening worldwide with the Russian invasion of the Ukraine and any future pandemic.  Mike invited members to ask questions and several Rotarians had questions and they shared their own thoughts about what may happen.
