Guest Speaker
Guest speakers today was Mendy Spohn, Regional Director of the Carter County Health Department. She spoke about COVID-19 and a congenital syphilis outbreak affecting our region.  The region that Carter County Health Dept. includes Carter County and eight surrounding counties.  Mrs. Spohn encouraged everyone to follow the CDC Guidelines of social distancing, washing hands regularly, wearing masks, and not going to work if you feel sick.  She mentioned that the Health Dept. has been working tirelessly since February to handle the outbreak and that free curbside COVID-19 tests are available at the Health Departement with a turnaround of 48-72 hours for results.  There is an additional site at the Chickasaw Nation Clinic that is free but will charge insurance for the testing with a turnaround of 3-5 days. She recommended testing 5-7 days after exposure for a more accurate test. There are hopes of vaccine on the horizon as there are over 221 vaccine trials happening right now.
