Meeting Notes

President-Elect Amy Hanus called the meeting to order. Rotarian of the Day Kenneth Walker asked Brian Stedman to lead the invocation.  Mr. Walker led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test.

There were a couple of happy dollars.  Daniel Gibbs had a happy dollar for John Cobb and Jim Marshall and Beth Marshall who were featured in an article in the Ardmoreite about their therapy dogs, Joe and Daisy.  Ken Bohannon had a happy dollar for the Ardmore Little Theater’s performance of Hello, Dolly! that is coming up on February 20-29, 2020.

President-Elect Hanus inducted a new member into our Rotary club.  Jordan Rickets was sponsored by Rotarian Drew Rickets.  Jordan is an agent for Rickets, Fennell & Associates.

Rotarian of the Day

Rotarian of the Day, Kenneth Walker, introduced fellow Rotarian Pete Keener as his speaker for the day. Pete spoke about the Christian Motorcyclists Association or CMA.  The CMA was started by Herb Shreve, an Arkansas pastor who purchased a motorcycle to close the generation gap with his rebellious son.   He started the CMA in 1975.  Today it has over 125,000 members in over 1,365 chapters in all 50 states, and in 40 foreign countries.  It is a ministry rather than a club.  It is designed to “make ministers of their members.”  The members go on mission trips.  They also serve at motorcycle rallies and at race tracks and motorcycle events throughout the country.  The CMA has one fundraiser per year.  The “Run for the Son” raises funds for biker evangelism, the Jesus Film Project, Transportation, and Open Doors.  The next Run for the Son will be held on May 2, 2020 and it takes place nationwide.  Last year’s Run for the Son raised $4,846,168. Pete is hoping to start a chapter of the CMA in Ardmore.
